Brew kit/Solo Cook Kit
The pouch on the front of this kit bag is perfect for holding all the sundries you could want for a day or two in the woods. What you see in the picture is a very small selection of what I might typically take.
- Tent pegs to stick through the two holes and raise the Tatonka mug up from the burner or fire.
- Soup, coffee, tea, cous cous etc...because I like it!
- Small fuel bottle. The fuel burner is 'O' ring sealed and can transport fuel inside it, this gives me extra.
- Hand sanitiser, always important to remember hygiene! also works as fire starter fuel!
- Small knife, spoon, straw, tinder, kindling, extra food, hand wipes...all additional things I have kept in here at one time or another.

All nested together:
This final photo shows everything nested together ready to go back inside the pouch. List of all items together:
Left: Maxpedition 'style' 10x4 water bottle pouch - £15
Bottom: Hobo stove made from coffee cannister - £3
Inside hobo: Tatonka Burner - £8
Inside hobo: Guyot bottle slips inside hobo stove, sits on Tatonka Burner - £27
On top of bottle: Tatonka mug sits inverted on Guyot bottle - £7
Total cost of system without sundries: approx £60 (or about $100)
One important additional thing to note here, is that its not just a great system, that's fit for purpose, robust and hard wearing, but get this...it all comes out of the pouch in order of the items that I use most often, or am likely to need first!
Cup being the item most commonly used, then bottle. I fill cup up with water from bottle. I can use cup and bottle over open fire. Once cup and bottle are out, if I need them, the hobo stove and meths fuel burner can also come out! Genius eh!
So there you have it. That's the most basic, fundamental part of my food and water system. I am British after all so time for a brew is a critical and essential part of 'being out there'. Its not the cheapest kit by any stretch of the imagination, and I am sure you will find some military offerings (like the Yugoslavian mess kit for example) a lot cheaper for your needs. But this is tailored to my requirements, I have every faith in the component parts, it has a multi-fuel stove, a liquid fuel burner, a bomp proof bottle, a bomb proof mug and a whole host of sundries to go with it...what more could you need!
